HealthEquity Names Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Government Affairs

DRAPER, Utah, July 26, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- HealthEquity, Inc. (NASDAQ: HQY) (“HealthEquity” or the “Company”), the nation’s largest independent health savings account (“HSA") non-bank custodian and leading administrator of other consumer-directed benefits, has appointed John Desser as the company’s senior vice president of public policy and government affairs effective July 11, 2022. Desser will succeed Jody Dietel, who will remain with HealthEquity as a special advisor.

Desser joins HealthEquity with almost three decades of experience working in and around public policy and government affairs, with a special focus on health benefits and efforts to empower health care consumers.

“John brings strong experience and unique qualifications that will allow us to continue to advocate for the empowerment of health care consumers across our country,” said CEO Jon Kessler.

Most recently Desser served as senior vice president of Government Affairs and Public Policy at eHealth where he led the government affairs and public policy efforts for 14 years. Prior to eHealth, Desser served as the deputy assistant secretary for health policy at the Department of Health and Human Services in the George W. Bush Administration. In this capacity, he oversaw policy development in the areas of Medicare as well as health care for low-income populations, among other issues.

Desser began his career on Capitol Hill as a health policy aide for the late U.S. Senator John McCain from Arizona. It was through this experience that he learned the importance of bipartisanship

“Red And Blue make Purple. In a way, I’ve been Team Purple for my entire career,” said Desser. “I’m ecstatic to join such a distinguished company, to continue to empower Americans to connect their health and wealth, and to bring team purple to Washington.”
